Role Summary

This is a serious, hands-on, true entry-level Jr. Security Operations Analyst role. While little to no prior professional cybersecurity experience is expected, strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, discipline, critical thinking, resourcefulness, ownership and personal accountability are mandatory to be successful in this role.

This position is designed for someone eager to get their foot in the door, apply themselves fully, take direction and coaching, and prove their capability through results. This is not a passive task execution role, not a “check the box and log off” job, and not suitable for someone looking to do the bare minimum.

The right candidate is driven to dig into issues, question assumptions, understand how tools and processes actually work, and actively look for ways to improve security posture, reduce risk, and enhance operational effectiveness. Training will be provided, but success in this role requires initiative, self-learning, and a genuine desire to master the fundamentals before taking on more complex work and projects.

The analyst in this role will be closely monitored, coached, and held to clear expectations. Performance is measured on quality, accuracy, judgment, initiative, follow-through, good communication and results, not intentions.

Core Responsibilities

Daily Responsibilities

  • Triage, investigate, and respond to high-severity Microsoft Defender alerts and security incidents
  • Handle escalated security tickets including phishing investigations, SOC escalations, and internal security requests
  • Proactively hunt for threats using advanced queries, log analysis, and anomaly detection techniques
  • Improve alert accuracy through tuning, process refinement, and documentation
  • Assist other team members with workload when needed

Weekly Responsibilities

  • Research, validate, and recommend Secure Score improvements, including submitting configuration changes or change requests
  • Perform vulnerability management activities by prioritizing exploitable risks, validating findings, recommending solutions, and tracking remediation through completion
  • Collaborate with IT Operations, end users, and internal stakeholders to resolve security issues effectively
  • Participate actively in team meetings, security discussions, and working sessions
  • Handle ad hoc security requests, investigations, and analysis as assigned

Monthly Responsibilities

  • Review and resolve Defender sensor health and endpoint security issues
  • Validate third-party risk and vulnerability findings using internal tools, open-source intelligence, and vendor resources
  • Maintain, refine, and improve security documentation, playbooks, and procedures
  • Dedicate time to skills development, tooling mastery, and continuous professional growth

Projects

  • Take ownership of assigned security projects and drive them through to completion
  • Coordinate with vendors, internal teams, and leadership as needed
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and operational efficiency

This role is intentionally structured to allow motivated analysts to earn additional responsibility and more complex work after mastering core responsibilities.

Expectations and Working Style

  • Operate as a competent security professional and represent the Information Security team and the broader IT organization in a positive, professional manner
  • Demonstrate ownership, discipline, curiosity, and pride in your work
  • Validate findings before acting, escalating, or communicating conclusions
  • Think critically and use all available resources, including tools, documentation, vendors, teammates, leadership, and independent research
  • Communicate clearly, accurately, and professionally, with expectations and outcomes well defined
  • Understand that results matter more than effort alone. You will be evaluated on outcomes, accuracy, and impact

This role is not for someone who dislikes accountability, direction, structure, or clearly defined expectations.

Education and Certifications, Read Carefully

Education and certifications are not what determine success in this role.

Relevant education, bootcamps, self-directed learning, or entry-level certifications are welcome and valued, but they will not outweigh demonstrated drive, work ethic, intelligence, discipline, determination and critical thinking.

Preference will be given to candidates who can convincingly demonstrate:

  • Drive and self-motivation
  • Intellectual curiosity and a habit of asking “why”
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment
  • Willingness to learn deeply and independently
  • A genuine desire to grow, prove themselves, and validate their work

If you are applying because you believe education or certifications alone qualify you, this role is not for you

Compensation

  • Base salary range: $62,000 to $75,000
  • Annual performance-based bonus potential based on individual and company performance

Mutual of Omaha Mortgage is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we encourage diverse, talented, qualified applicants to apply. We offer an extensive compensation package. Benefits include:

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
